You can fit this design on a wide quarter of any linen count. However, on 28ct linen, you will only have a 2.5 inch border on the long side of the fabric.

If you are stitching this on 14, 16, or 18ct aida, you will need a half yard. If you are stitching this on 20ct aida, you can fit this on a quarter yard but will only have a 2.5 inch border on the long side of the fabric. 

From the designer:

This piece’s design started with the French Hen linen as inspiration, and I wanted to use a quote from an autograph book — the quote is one I found online. Once I got started laying in elements, I liked the look of the top part appearing like a “gallery” of pieces. Some of these could be stitched by themselves for smalls. 

Since I do a lot of sampler reproducing, I am inspired by old mainstays of those samplers that are still part of our world today. The white house is very similar to homes from the 1700’s and 1800’s in our neighborhood here in Pennsylvania. All summer we’ve watched fawns and their mothers run through our backyard to get to the cornfield next door. We love to bird watch and have a pair of doves that live in our yard, as well as owls, bluejays, cardinals, robins, blackbirds, miscellaneous little brown birds, and geese (nearby). We live in a very green state, so flowers and plants are all around us. We have six cats ourselves (the lady on the sampler has two with her), and the man on the right has a little dog, just like our son and his wife do. I love to go antiquing, so the old style keys and a lock are a nod to digging for treasures.

I love a border that changes — stitching the same flowers over and over can get tiresome. So, you’ve got three borders to keep you occupied. A strawberry border is an essential part of the world of antique samplers. You can change the colors on the berries to your liking.

Test a small sample if you intend to wash, esp darker colours. It has been rinsed and set carefully and should be colourfast - but always better safe than sorry.
