The Modern Folk Embroidery 2027 SAL - Song of Orpheus - is inspired by the musician, poet and prophet from ancient Greek mythology.

You can stitch “Song of Orpheus” in various ways. You can stitch it fully monochrome, or with two colours of your choice. You can also stitch a negative version of this design.

FLOSS REQUIREMENTS

The monochromatic design using positive space stitching has a total of 33, 766 crosses.

  • you will need 10skeins of floss if stitching 1 over 2
  • you will need 19 skeins of floss if stitching 2 over 2

The monochromatic design using negative space stitching has a total of 29, 469 crosses.

  • you will need 9 skeins of floss if stitching 1 over 2
  • you will need 17 skeins of floss if stitching 2 over 2

The two colour version has a total of 22, 158 crosses for colour one and 11, 608 crosses for colour two.

  • you will need 7 skeins of floss for colour one and 4 skeins of floss for colour two if stitching 1 over 2
  • you will need 13 skeins of floss for colour one and 7 skeins of floss for colour two if stitching 2 over 2

The cover photo of the chart shows a digital mock up of this design stitched with red floss on a light neutral fabric. Here are some suggestions for different thread/fabric combinations:

You are encouraged to work with the colours that speak the most to you!

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS
  • If stitching on 28ct linen, you will need a half yard.
  • If stitching on 32ct linen, you can fix this on a wide quarter, but you will only have a 2 inch border on the short side of the fabric.
  • If stitching on 36ct linen or higher, you will need a wide quarter.
