From the Designer:
At the centre of the Netherlands are two great lakes: the IJsselmeer and the Markermeer. These lakes once formed a sea called the Zuiderzee (South Sea), which was directly connected to the North Sea. After a terrible flood in 1916, the decision was made to build a protective dyke - stopping the tides that had ruled its shores for centuries and turning the saltwater into sweetwater. Vast portions of land were also reclaimed, resulting in a brand-new 12th province: Flevoland.
Along the banks of the former Zuiderzee were many fishing towns, each with unique folk traditions and dress. They also created some stunning samplers featuring bands that could be applied to collars and cuffs or worked on other linen items.
