Modern Folk Embroidery - SAL 2023: Reaching Skyward - Booklet Chart
The Modern Folk Embroidery 2023 SAL - Reaching Skyward - pays homage to the Trees of Life found on Frisian samplers, and plays with folklore border elements.
When joining the SAL, please use the hashtag #MFESAL2023 so we can all follow and admire each other's work!
Chart measures 382 stitch high and 251 stitches wide.
FLOSS REQUIREMENTS
This design is charted for two colours - one lighter and one darker. Colour one (light) has 22849 crosses, and colour two (dark) has 24940 crosses. Make sure to get enough floss when you start: it’s always a good idea to purchase some extra skeins in case something goes wrong during stitching!
For stitching 1 over 2 you will need approx. 7 skeins for colour one (light) and 8 skeins for colour two (dark) when stitching with Roxy Floss. For stitching 2 over 2 you will need approx. 14 skeins for colour one (light) and 15 skeins (dark) for colour two. Specific floss details for specific fabric counts are included in the booklet.
Jacob recommends Roxy Floss Co Gomez and Roxy Floss Co Caramel for stitching this chart. The Evertote team recommends Roxy Floss Co Great Lakes and Roxy Floss Co Amaretto (see second photo).
You are encouraged to work with the colours you love most, but you should not feel limited to working with two colours only. Please feel free to add as much colour to the design as you see fit!
Looking for fabric? We recommend Roxy Linen or Aida in Porcelain.
FROM JACOB
The 2023 SAL is a little different from previous years: this year, you are receiving all twelve parts in one go. The pattern has been broken up in 12 monthly instalments. Each month we’ll be stitching approximately 4000 crosses. On the 1st of January, we will start at the top of the design, and during the year, we’ll be working down to the bottom of the pattern.
At the centre of this year’s SAL is a circular design containing a large Tree of Life motif. Unique this year is a 2nd pattern booklet containing three alternative versions of this design. This booklet (called “Alternative Trees”) can be purchased separately and includes three original designs that can either be used in this design or stitched individually. It also contains the tree of life, as seen in this pattern booklet, but with a different frame around it.
You can purchase the Alternative Trees booklet directly from us at this link: MFE Alternative Trees for "Reaching Skyward" Booklet Chart
